Card 1:

This my most popular painting by far! Adventure into the unknown III.

Walking by faith and not by sight is the call for every follower of Jesus. While following Him can be terrifying, He asks His friends to trust in Him. Even suffering and heart ache become the catalyst for strength and new adventures when submitting to Him.

I draw my inspiration first and foremost through prayer. Some of my paintings reflect the beauty of the island of Bardsey where I serve as a chaplain once a year. My paintings are playful and bright with an over emphasis on light, hinting at the Glory of God found in all of creation.

The stories of ancient Celtic Saints inspire me and their missional lives. Some would dare to get into a coracle and pray, ‘Lord of the wind and the waves, take us your servants to where you will.’ They would then push out into the expanse of the sea and with childlike faith believe that God would take them where He wanted them to go and spread the good news.

Their example inspires me to daily walk in the slipstream of Jesus being pushed out to share the good news of Jesus wherever I go.

Card 2:

Is a simple painting inspired by the remote island of Bardsey. ‘Painting in the rain.’

Card 3:

Worship in the waterfall. This image has spoken to people powerfully about dwelling in that place of God’s presence and worshiping him in the waterfall of His spirit!

Card 4:
He brought me out into a spacious place.

This painting was originally created ‘live’ over Zoom for students of Northern Baptist College who are leaving their ‘minister in training’ course and heading off to lead churches around the North West.

The inspiration initially came from the Psalms, some beautiful verses about spaciousness and protection:

‘He brought me out into a spacious place;
he rescued me because he delighted in me.’ (Psalm 18.19)

‘You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.’ (Psalm 31.8)

‘Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.’ (Psalm 57.1)

I wanted to create something that spoke of space and joy fullness, a sense of what is to come. Within the twirl and flying of the kites is a circle of feathers symbolising God’s presence and surrounding.

I shared a photo of what I had created on-line and my lovely neighbour sent me a message after she had spent an afternoon with her granddaughter and son on the playing fields flying a kite!

She wrote: “It seems to symbolise all our hopes and prayers, and a soaring optimism.” What a lovely insight into what I hoped I could bring through a simple painting.

Card 5:

Like a river.’ This is my latest commission that I’ve painted for someone. I enjoyed painting it soooo much! The simplicity is that it is an encouragement to see the Spirit flowing ‘like a river’ and bringing life wherever we go.
