Chaplaincy on Bardsey this year was a mix of joy and sadness. There was an accident in the island before I arrived and tragically a man lost his life. It happened in a moment.
The paintings I produced reflected the fragility of life represented by grasses and flowers in the field, but also reveal the energy and colour of the island that always brings me close to God as I see His beauty in creation.
This painting seeks to capture that moment the light breaks through the clouds onto the sea. Some people call it heaven shards or angels light. Unwanted to capture what I saw and felt and the whole painted was created in one go, without the layers drying as I usually allow them to.
My daughter called me out to see the light, and instead of taking a picture of it I just got painting very quickly using the acrylic inks and some acrylic paint (especially the characteristic Naples yellow that seems so prominent at sun set.
It's painted using acrylic inks, pen and spray paints.
