Since 1880 the earth's tempeture has risen by 0.08°C per decade. The rate of warming since 1981 has been more than twice that (0.18°C) per decade. The last 10 years to be ever recorded rank among the 10 warmest years on record. Ever.

This painting is about the danger we are all in, represented by the iconic polar bear and cubs and their slow walk towards the heat and edge of time and destruction of the earth. It's about our impending doom, unless we react swiftly and take individual and corporate action.

Within the pain of the painting there is a cry to the One who has seen the detail over the years and sees the years ahead. I believe the creator weeps over our mis-stewardship of the earth. I have a prayer that accompanies this painting taken from the Psalms:

'Rise Up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.' Pslam 82.8

'You rule over the surging sea; when it's waves mount up, you still them... The heavens are yours, and yours also is the earth, you founded the world and all that is in it.' Pslam 89 verses 9 and 11.

A blessing:

Lord God, creator of the earth and all that is in it, you know this world inside and out.

Come by the power of your Holy Spirit and enable us to rise up as wise stewards to halt this climate crisis.

Rise up and empower the leaders of this world to make a stand and then to act. To care and champion the earth especially for the poor and those who live in places where climate change spells death, flooding, famine and destruction.

Come Holy Spirit and stop us in our tracks. That the impending doom may become a sudden hope, that pollution and poisons that are warming our world may cease. Amen
