Chaplaincy on Bardsey this year was a mix of joy and sadness. There was an accident in the island before I arrived and tragically a man lost his life. It happened in a moment.
The paintings I produced reflected the fragility of life represented by grasses and flowers in the field, but also reveal the energy and colour of the island that always brings me close to God as I see His beauty in creation.
This painting captures being in rather on the island - it seeks to show the colours of the island. There is always a process of coming to stay in this thin space. I arrive, settle in and then spend a few days on the island, and then something immersive happens and I become 'in' the island, and slow down and breathe deeply and rest like I've never known.
It's painted using acrylic inks, pen and spray paints.
