I recently did some filming with my friend Andy Thomas from The Fuel cast. He asked me to speak on the subject of Lament. The pouring out of our compaint to God, the praying out of pain kind of prayers that we see in black and white on the pages if a third of the Pslams. I gave an overview of what Lament is and also shared a poem that I had written about the war in Ukraine. It was an emotional time filming for the day.
The film accompanied lots of B-role (the stuff that film makers like Andy cut away to when the monologue still plays or to build up the story of what is being shared.)
My B-role was me painting over a landscape scene in dark colours and then using inks to drop over the dark colours to show a scene like a galaxy. It was a destroying and then recreating of a painting, showing te pain and pouring out that accompanies a prayer of Lament.
The finished painting is what I now have for sale. I've worked layers upon layers and sanded down too giving lots of texture and line throughout the large canvas.
The painting is created using acrylic paints, inks and sprays and is painted on a beautiful chunky canvas measuring approx 120cm by 120cm.
