I was given a nail by a friend to make marks in an abstract drawing I was working on. It was a simple act of passing me a discarded nail on a studio workshop table. Yet it proved to be a profound moment of feeling and acknowledging the power of the sacrifice of Jesus upon the cross. For me.
I wanted to capture that nail. Hammered into the hand of Jesus. Yet the nail wasn't what was held him upon the cross. It was his love for me and you.
I wanted to create the freedom of paint and boldness of stroke within this painting, and much of the detail is in fact layered paint unashamedly showing the palkete knife, nail marks or brush stroke.
It is painted using acrylic paints, actljc inks and spray paint.
It measures 150cm by 100cm.
