Painted live while Revs. Lisa Holmes spoke at Fresh Streams conference 2026, this painting emerged with some very simple and broad brush stokes.
After seeing three figures appear I prayed about 'hearts burning within us' as Lisa spoke about that story and the joy within us. This story comes from that famous three people walking on the way to Emmaus, shortly after Jesus rose again from the dead.
After the couple spoke with Jesus (not knowing it was him) they arrived at their home and they invited Jesus in.
As he broke bread and gave thanks their eyes were opened as to who their guest truly was! The scripture then says that they asked each other:, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
I wanted to capture the walking and talking on the road with hearts burning. Jesus is in the middle, shown by the gold halo around Him, but the couple one either side also have gold, but it's where their hearts are. Burning within them!
The painting measures 76 cm by 51cm.
