Painted live as I served as artist in residence and people wondered in to look at an art exhibition, this painting kind of 'just happend.' It feels like a prayer of intercession as I consider the horrors of more bombs and death in this world.
When I painted it a few days ago I wanted to capture an urgency in prayer, a longing, an encounter, a time of meeting with God.
Where I serve as artist in residence, St Andrews Street Baptist Church, our church verse for the year is from Colossians 4.2: 'Devote yourselves to prayer being watchful and thankful.'
What a JOY to paint scenes of prayer as I engage with people who come and see the paintings that are part of an exhibition! A real joy.
'Lord, please have mercy' really does feel more pertinent a prayer and painting as bombs are dropping once more and Governments seek to bring peace by the futile means of doing so. Peace will never come through bombing countries. It never has.
My prayer is to live in a world without bombs, a world that is more like the peaceful kingdom of heaven than the devastation of war that ravages so many parts of this world. Oh Lord, please have mercy.
I hope this painting encourages you to cry out to God for His mercy.
